      Filter until it fits

Set what you are in the mood for: meal, diet, cuisine, prep time, effort and budget. From a large collection of dish ideas, the generator suggests one that fits — with a description, tags and an estimated time. Vegan dishes also appear in the vegetarian selection.

      An end to decision fatigue

The question “What should I eat today?” costs you nerves every single day. A random but filtered suggestion brings variety to your meal plan without any long deliberation. The selection is evenly distributed via the browser's random generator; favorites can be saved locally.

From a blank mind to a finished plate in four steps

Sometimes you simply don't know what should end up on the table, even though you are already hungry. Instead of overwhelming you with endless lists, the generator hands you one concrete dish at random from a large collection of ideas. You narrow things down beforehand: which meal is coming up, how much time you have and what budget fits.

      • Choose the meal, for example breakfast, lunch or dinner
      • Set diet and cuisine to your taste
      • Adjust time, effort and budget to your everyday life
      • Draw a suggestion and save it as a favorite if you like it

If a result appeals to you, keep it locally and you will find it again straight away later. Bit by bit that builds a personal collection you can fall back on when you are tired. The random principle takes the choice off your hands without patronizing you.

Variety in everyday cooking instead of the same old recipes

Most households really only cook a handful of dishes over and over, because new ideas get lost in the daily routine. This is exactly where chance helps you, because it deliberately puts a meal in front of you that you would not have thought of yourself. The filters still keep you realistic, so you only get suggestions that match your equipment and your time window.

Feel free to use the generator once a week for rough planning, so your shopping list gains some structure. Draw several dishes one after another and spread them across the individual days until a well-rounded sequence of meals emerges. If you cook together, let each person draw a suggestion and then take a vote. That way you regularly try something new without working through cookbooks for hours or arguing with each other.

      Frequently asked

      Random Food: frequently asked questions

How does the food generator work?

Set your filters — meal, diet, cuisine, time, effort and budget — and click “Pick a meal”. One dish is then suggested fairly and at random from all matching options.

Can I pick vegetarian or vegan dishes?

Yes. The “diet” filter narrows the suggestions down to vegetarian, vegan, meat or fish dishes. Vegan dishes also show up in the vegetarian selection.

Can I filter by prep time?

Yes. You can limit the results to dishes that take up to 15, 30 or 60 minutes — handy when things need to be quick.

      Are the suggestions really random?

Yes. From all the dishes that match your filters, the generator picks one via crypto.getRandomValues — every matching dish has exactly the same chance.

      Are my filters stored?

Your filter settings stay put while you are on the page, but they never leave your browser. Saved favorites also live only locally on your device.

      Is the food generator free?

Yes, completely free — no sign-up, no limit and no ads. Everything runs right in your browser.

Can I add my own dishes?

At the moment you pick from a large collection of prepared dish ideas. Adding your own dishes isn't possible yet — but you can save any suggestion you like as a favorite.

Are the time and effort figures exact?

No. The time and effort figures are a rough guide and can vary depending on the recipe, your kitchen equipment and your experience.
